Sessions

Community ear sessions

Forty minutes seated in a quiet room, a few needles in each ear.

Ear sessions are a short, simple form of acupuncture. You sit in a chair with a blanket, I place a few fine needles in each ear, and you rest with a few other people in a shared room. There is no need to undress or talk. They are held on Saturday mornings.

Who usually comes

  • People who want a short, simple session

  • People who would rather sit than lie down

  • Anyone who likes the quiet of a shared room

A visit

What a visit is like, in order

  1. 01

    Step 1: You arrive

You sign in, choose a chair and settle in with a blanket if you like.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The needles

A few fine needles in each ear, placed quickly. You may feel a pinch.

  3. 03

    Step 3: You rest

About thirty minutes of quiet. Keep your eyes open or closed, and let me know if you need anything.

  4. 04

Step 4: The needles come out

I take them out, and you leave when you feel ready.

Good to know

Before and after

  • What you may feel afterward

Many people feel calm or sleepy. A little soreness in the ear can happen. Take your time getting up.

  • Tell me first

Pregnancy, a blood thinner or a bleeding disorder, an ear infection or a skin problem on the ear, or a fear of needles. I adjust the session, or we use ear seeds instead of needles.

  • How many visits

People come as often as they like, and some come regularly. It is a suggestion, not a promise, and results vary. You can come once and see how it feels.

  • What it does not do, and when to see a doctor

It does not replace your doctor, your medicine or emergency care. See a doctor first for sudden, severe pain, chest pain, a high fever, new weakness or numbness, or a loss of bladder or bowel control. In an emergency, call 911.
